The Dentist

Today, as luck would have it, the kids had their 6 month dental check-up. I say it's lucky because at least we could have a professional check out Ian's tooth. Since the incident on Thanksgiving, he's hit his mouth two more times. I think he is determined to lose that tooth.

Anyway, Ian did a great job at the Dentist. He even let them take an X-ray of his teeth while he sat on Mommy's lap. It was so sweet. He squeezed my hand when they took the x-ray because he was scared/nervous. But he did it, and was very brave.

So the verdict from the Dr. - he probably won't lose it (barring any future hits). The tooth will probably turn grey/black :( At least the tooth isn't noticed when he smiles.

Payton did not want to get her teeth cleaned. She went in with a good attitude, but as soon as the dental assistant started scraping on her teeth, she said she was 'done' and bolted.

(I don't blame her, I hate getting my teeth cleaned/examined.)

But, Payton has to go back next week. She has a small cavity and they'll finish her cleaning then.

Gobble, Gobble

Happy Thanksgiving!

I didn't have to cook a turkey this year. We were invited over to our friends Bill and Robyn's house for the occasion. I just signed up to bring a pumpkin pie and corn casserole.

Daddy had to work this morning. The kids and I watched the Macy's Thanksgiving parade. Payton really got into the singing and dancing. Ian just wanted to dance around instead of watch it.

It was time for us to go to our friend's house. The kids were up on a stools playing computer. Ian was getting down when he started screaming... and bleeding from his mouth. He hit his bottom left tooth while getting off the stool. (He's gotten up and down from the same stool millions of times before! Why did he hurt himself now??!?!?!?)

He cried for a while. Didn't really want to be held. Absolutely refused to take ibuprofen.

His tooth wiggles when I touch it :(

And the tooth is outlined in red where it meets the gums.

I hope my poor baby doesn't lose his tooth.

Payton's Thanksgiving program

Preschool and Pre-K put on a program the day before Thanksgiving. It was followed by a potluck 'feast'.

I was very proud of Payton. She sang all the songs, held up her feather at the correct time, and said most of the bible verses.

The first song proved to be a too much for a couple of the kids. The teachers had to get them off stage pretty quickly.

After that, the feather song proved to be a bit much for some of the younger ones. Payton was right on que :)

I helped make the Native American costumes. I was asked to cut the fringes. Unfortunately, the scissors I was given to do the job were very difficult. I had a couple of blisters after cutting only 8 shirts, but at least I tried.

Here Fishy, Fishy!

What do you do on a cold, wet, nasty, misty day?

Why, go fishing, of course!

Barn Party

Saturday, Payton was invited to a Birthday Barn party. Daddy was invited to play in a golf tournament, so Ian went with Mommy and Payton to the party. The party was in Denton, NC which is almost an hour southeast of here. I didn't mind the drive because I was actually excited about the 5 year old's B-day party on a ranch. Payton and I wore our boots and headed down there.

First off, we jumped on the carriage ride, pulled by a team of two horses. The horses were beautiful; the scenery was beautiful; and the ride wasn't as bumpy as I thought it would be. This was a custom built carriage, made of wood and finished with car seats, rear view mirrors, and a radio!

The ranch had some cows and about 30 horses. We had burgers and hot dogs from a huge grill mounted on the back of a trailer. Then there were horse back rides around the barn. Ian's face totally lit up when he sat on top of the horse by himself. He LOVED it! Payton had a huge grin on her face too.

It was a beautiful place and very nice people.

Oh yeah, and there was cake and presents. Happy birthday Alex! Thanks for inviting us to your party.

I go first!

Yesterday, the kids received the seasonal flu shot at our Dr.'s office. Scott was able to take off for a little while to help out. I warned the kids that the shot will hurt a little bit, but that it wouldn't hurt for very long. Then after the shot was over, I promised them ice cream. Ice cream always helps.

We get into the examination room with the nurse and the nurse asks us which one should go first. I wasn't sure, so we ask the children who would like to get the shot first. Without hesitation, Ian raises his hand and says, 'I go first'. Payton on the other hand, said 'Not me!' Daddy holds Ian while he gets the shot. Ian watches the whole thing. There was a little delay, but the crying started just after the needle was out. Payton didn't appreciate this and she decides that she is NOT getting the shot. She thought it was going to hurt TOO MUCH. Scott and I tried to reason with her. When that didn't work, we had to hold her down.

This was not fun.

Her crying stopped after 10 seconds and she said, 'That wasn't so bad. - You said it was going to hurt really bad'

Ah well, the superman ice cream at Mayberry's was appreciated after the whole ordeal.

I love having a garden. It's very rewarding to plant a seed, watch it grow, and give you fruit. When it comes to eating the vegetables from the garden, they look and taste better than anything you can buy in the store. The only drawback, is the feeling you get when you're washing some lettuce from your garden and it's draining in a colander, and you notice a nice juicy green worm crawling up the side of the colander. Or better yet, the feeling you get when you've had some delicious steamed broccoli and as your are putting the leftovers away, you notice the two dead worms in the bottom of the pan. Hmmm. Yum.
