Weekend Fun

We had a busy weekend. Daddy has 2 weekends off this month - yep, that's it - off only 4 out of 31 days in August. So, we took advantage of him being around.

Saturday, we went to the Children's Museum in Winston-Salem. The museum is made up of 7 different play areas. On the first floor there is a library and a building workshop. Then the kids can climb up a beanstalk to the second floor. Payton wanted to climb up, but wanted Daddy's help. It's a good thing Daddy isn't too big because he barely squeezed between some of the leaves. Upstairs there was a room with the letters of the alphabet, a big room with a garden, a row boat, a cow they could milk, a log cabin and a puppet theater. Then there was a grocery store, a Crispy Creme Donut factory, and an outside patio with water tables and a sand box. The kids were a little overwhelmed at first, but warmed up to it quickly. They really liked the grocery store. Each of them got their own cart and started filling it which was great fun. The video is of Ian's shopping the store. There was really too much to do during our little visit, so we got a year membership.





Today, we packed a lunch and headed about 30 minutes north of here to Pilot Mountain State Park. You can drive up to Little Pinnacle peak which has some great lookouts in all directions. The kids especially liked climbing up the footpath that overlooked Pilot Mountain.

This afternoon Payton helped me make a chocolate cake for my birthday. Actually Payton mainly helped with the chocolate icing. I asked her if she wanted a piece of cake or just the icing she said, 'I just want the spoon with the icing.' Scott grilled some steaks for supper, and then we all had cake before the kids' bedtime.
