The Bees Are Officially Gone

The exterminator came on Monday of this week and found not just one, but two yellow jacket nests in our backyard. He said I was lucky that I only got stung twice because evidently when a yellow jackets stings, he sends off a scent that tells the rest of his buddies to come and join in on the fun. Plus, yellow jackets sting AND bite. So the exterminator put some Delta? dust on the nests and told us to wait a couple of days to make sure they were gone. On Wednesday, there were no more bees coming in and out of the ground - yay! Now that the bees are gone I'm going to have to mow this weekend. At least the weather is nice. I ran outside this morning and it was 68! The high today is only suppose to be in the low 80s :)
Since the bees were gone, we played outside Wednesday afternoon for the first time in about two weeks. We set up the pool. Payton wanted to wear her hat and goggles - that didn't last too long.

It was also time to pick some of our squash. I made some squash fritters for supper that evening in hopes that Payton would eat some - uh, that would be a negative. But Ian ate 3 squash fritters by himself. Personally, I thought they were pretty yummy.

thats how wilted my squash looked like when it started getting hot. when I would water them in the evening they'd perk back up until it was hot again.

how are they doing since you've picked them?

My squash plant is not producing much. I think I might have one more about to form, but my male blossoms just fall off. I read in the paper today that this is the time of year when a powdery mildew get the best of the squash plants and I'm starting to see that on mine. Oh well, at least we got something.

Hey sis, make a mixture of baking soda and water (4 tbsp per gallon) and spray it on the squash. It takes care of the powdery mildew. (http://www.dirtdoctor.com/view_question.php?id=2173)
