A Little Thoughtfulness

Today Payton surprised me - in a very good and sweet way.
My Aunt Winnie is recovering in a little ICU in El Campo, TX right now. She went into surgery today to get a kink out of her small intestine, but instead the surgeon found a perforated appendix and an abscess the size of a baseball. The surgery seems to have gone well, but Aunt Winnie will be intubated for a couple of days while her body heals itself. I told Payton that Aunt Winnie was sick and in the hospital, and immediately she said, 'I will make her something.' So I got out the construction paper, crayons, markers, and stickers and Payton went to work. Then Payton proceeded to tell me how her get well card would get to Winnie. She said that we would put the letter in the mailbox. Our mailman would pick it up and take it to Uncle Laird. Then Uncle Laird will have to get in his car, drive it to the hospital and give it to Aunt Winnie.

First, it was so sweet that Payton wanted to do something for Aunt Winnie - right away. When I told Payton, we had just gotten home from school at 12:15 pm. Payton made her card before she had lunch even though she is usually starving when she gets home. Secondly, it's so cool when Payton talks me through her thought processes . I don't know why, but it was amazing to hear how she envisioned every detail of how that letter would get from point A to point B. Children are truly special little people.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Winnie and the family while she recovers.
