Payton, Payton, Payton

Having my first child in school is a new experience for me. I had no idea that I would be thrown into something so much bigger than myself. I now have to remember to write a praise note on Monday night, that will be read to Payton and the whole class on Tuesday during snack time. I also have to remember to bring Payton's library book on Tuesday, otherwise, she doesn't get to pick out a new one. On Wednesdays, Payton has chapel, so she has to be at school a littler earlier and I have to remember her to put her offering in an envelope for her. There is not a regular thing to remember to bring on Thursdays, but there is usually something I need to bring with Payton. Last Thursday, the teacher needed 1-3 family pictures. The Thursday before that I had to bring a bag of candy for the school fall festival. The Thursday before that, Scholastic book orders were due (which I LOVE!). Then I had to decide if I wanted to join PTA which has monthly meetings (but I don't HAVE to go to those). And we could have ordered school T-shirts for the whole family! In Scott's words, 'IT'S JUST PRESCHOOL!' But here I am, PTA mom, who will be helping two other moms plan the Halloween and Christmas party for Payton's class. I can't wait for extracurricular activities to start.

Being a concerned parent, I wanted to feel out the teacher to see how Payton was doing. Payton loves going to school and usually has no problems minus the occasional potty accidents. So I asked Mrs. Reynolds if there was anything I needed to work on with Payton at home. Mrs. Reynolds replied, "You have a very sweet and special little girl. She has such a quiet and gentle nature, always smiling and being kind." Scott and I had to take a double take. What? Don't get me wrong, she can be sweet and kind sometimes, but quiet? Evidently Payton hasn't found her voice in class which might be a blessing. None the less, it is nice to hear that Payton has adjusted well to the classroom and she enjoys school.
